We partnered with Shoes That Fit, an organization committed to providing shoes that fit to Title I elementary schools whose families cannot afford to buy them. The Las Vegas office sponsored Ruby S. Thomas Elementary School and raised over $2,000 through an office bake sale, a “Tacos for Shoes” event, jean passes, and monetary donations from employees, to purchase 209 brand new pairs of shoes (and socks) for the students. Over 27 members of the Las Vegas office donated delicious homemade baked goods that on its own raised more than $750.

Assembling food and hygiene kits for Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth. Members of the Las Vegas office shopped for and donated supplies for 2,084 individual food and hygiene items. A team of more than 35 volunteers gathered to assemble 130 hygiene kits and approximately 160 food kits. Completed kits were delivered to the Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth to support their program.

The Shade Tree: Members of the Las Vegas office donated 75 Halloween costumes to families staying at The Shade Tree, a local organization that provides safe shelter to homeless and abused women and children in crisis, and helped to set-up and host a fun party at Opportunity Village’s HallOVeen festival.

School Supply Drive: In August, more than forty members of our Las Vegas office gathered donations and items to “fill a bus” with school supplies that were given to local underprivileged kids for their new school year. In total, 843 items were collected, including backpacks, paper, pencils, crayons, and other school supplies.

Las Vegas Rescue Mission Food Drive: The Las Vegas office collected over 2,700 pounds of food in November to donate to the Las Vegas Rescue Mission.

Adopt-A-Family: The Las Vegas office adopted three families with Children staying at the Shade Tree facility for victims of domestic violence. Employees went shopping and donated gifts for families with kids as young as one year – including a set of twins. Gifts included items such as clothes, a double stroller, video games, and tablet computers.

United Way Drive: Attorneys and staff at Holland & Hart’s Las Vegas office recently collected and donated $14,646 to the United Way of Southern Nevada. The office achieved 100 percent participation and exceeded its goal for the year.

“I am very proud of my colleagues for achieving 100 percent participation, an accomplishment that demonstrates Holland & Hart’s commitment to giving back in the communities we serve,” said Administrative Partner Patrick Reilly. “We are honored and dedicated to supporting the United Way of Southern Nevada and look forward to helping the organization in many other ways throughout the year.”

The event was organized through the Las Vegas Committee of the Holland & Hart Foundation, the firm’s 501(c)(3) nonprofit foundation dedicated to promoting the human side of community service by creating ways for the firm’s extended “family” to help others in need. In addition to lawyers offering their professional services on a pro bono basis, firm members also do non-legal charitable and civic work.

Holland & Hart’s Las Vegas office participates in quarterly projects in support of United Way. So far this year, those have included the fundraising drive and the “Flip Through Summer” book drive.

“United Way of Southern Nevada is proud of our new partnership with Holland & Hart,” said Cass Palmer, United Way of Southern Nevada President and CEO. “We applaud Holland & Hart for their dedication to making a difference in our community and for surpassing their campaign goal of $14,000 with 100 percent employee participation! We thank Holland & Hart for their generous support of the community.”

Shoes that Fit: The mission of Shoes That Fit is to provide new shoes to children in need for school. Shoes That Fit helps kids improve their self-esteem and fit in at school by eliminating one of poverty’s most visible and debilitating marks. For the past six years, the Las Vegas office committee of the Holland & Hart Foundation has adopted a local elementary school to provide shoes for kids in need. On March 21, volunteers from the Las Vegas office committee of the Holland & Hart Foundation arrived at R. Guild Gray Elementary to deliver hundreds of new shoes and socks to at-risk children. The largest volunteer activity this year, Holland & Hart attorneys and staff committed to provide a pair of shoes for each child in need, for a total of more than 350 pairs of shoes. Working with school administrators, volunteers collected each child’s specific shoe size. At the same time, the members of the Las Vegas office committee of the Holland & Hart Foundation contacted organizations to donate money or shoes. Any shoes that were not donated were purchased by the Holland & Hart Foundation. Although this project reached at least 350 elementary school children, it also assisted their families, bringing the number of people reached by the project to well over a thousand.

Boots & Booties: During the months of July and August, the Las Vegas office committee of the Holland & Hart Foundation collected newborn diapers, baby wipes and baby toys for the Boots & Booties Military Baby Shower. The goal of the organization is to provide necessary baby items to military moms, both those serving in the military and the wives of those who are serving. These young families are stationed far from friends and families, quite often their spouses are deployed and they do not have the same support that many other families enjoy. In addition to the baby gifts, each new mom receives a “Diaper Cake” – a decorative cake made with disposable diapers decorated with usable baby items. Members of the Las Vegas office committee of the Holland & Hart Foundation not only donated diapers and toys, but also donated their time building the diaper cakes for the shower, which was held at the Venetian Resort October 19, and benefitted 210 soon-to-be new moms.
