Support Our Troops
We support our local Blue
Star Mothers and so can you.
Who are the Blue Star Mothers? The organization was formed
in 1942 in Flint, Michigan, when mothers of servicemen began
to volunteer in very noticeable and substantive ways. The
group’s work and popularity grew by leaps & bounds.
By 1960, the group received its Congressional Charter. There
are chapters all over the country.
This service organization, which consists of volunteer mothers,
has volunteered throughout the tough times of World War II
and Vietnam and in between. They’ve worked in hospitals,
train stations, packed care packages for soldiers and were
a working part of homeland security during times of war. The
organization waned in size over the years, but has managed
to be held together by determined mothers showing pride in
both their children and country. In recent times the organization
has begun to grow in strength again. Being attacked on our
own soil has once again started mothers hanging flags in their
windows at home proclaiming pride in the fact that we have
children protecting our freedom during a time of war regardless
of political persuasion. This organization provides support
for active duty service personnel, promotes patriotism, assists
Veterans organizations, and are available to assist in homeland
volunteer efforts to help our country remain strong. Obtaining
donations and preparing CARE packages to deployed soldiers
is one of the biggest projects our New Mexico Chapter participates
in. This year, our relatively small Santa Fe office of Holland
& Hart donated $878 dollars to the NM Rio Grande Chapter
of Blue Star Mothers. The Blue Star Mothers put together 275
care packages to our troops serving this country in foreign
soil. The shipping cost for this project alone was a little
over $5000, so our contribution was very much appreciated
and needed.
One of Holland & Hart’s former Project Assistants,
20 year old Pfc Jason Guinn, is serving in the US Army and
is currently stationed in South Korea. The incredible donations
by individuals in the H&H Foundation community were appreciated
by not only the Blue Star
Mothers, but by the soldiers themselves. As one Marine
put it, “It’s always nice to receive packages
from home.”
If you’d like to assist the Blue Star Mothers in their
